Five Tips to Meditate with Your Partner

HOW TO GET STARTED WITH COUPLES MEDITATION

Connect with your partner more deeply through meditation! It's amazing how a few minutes of meditation with your partner is a powerful way to feel close not to mention the peacefulness you'll both feel afterwards.

TIPS TO GET THE MOST OUT OF MEDITATING WITH YOUR PARTNER.

  1. Find the right spot - I recommend finding a quiet area where you both feel comfortable. If you usually meditate in small space, you might need to find a larger place where you can both sit or lay down.

  2. Get comfortable - Do you like to sit on a bolster or cushion? In a chair? Laying down with a blanket? There are many ways to sit in meditation, and your partner might like something different. Before putting two cushions on the floor, talk with your partner about how they like to sit.

  3. Start small - If one (or both!) of you is new to meditating, don't dive into an hour long experience. Try a 5 to 10 minute meditation together and work up to longer ones (or keep them short - this is supposed to be fun!).

  4. Pick a style you both like - If one of you is into crystals, but the other isn't quite as crunchy, consider sticking with something more middle of the road. Mindfulness is my favorite style for beginners because it's all about fostering awareness of the present moment - which can help you two savor your time together.

  5. Have fun! - Meditation is a practice. Don't take yourselves too seriously. Feel free to giggle about burps, loud noises, pets, or an odd guided meditation.
