Entertaining Reads - With a Side of Enlightenment!
Both laugh- and thought-provoking, I really enjoyed the Haint Blue Adventures by J. Elliott. Monkey Mind, Monkey Heart, and Haint Blue Christmas are equal parts funny and heartwarming as they lead us on one woman's journey to find inner peace. The author’s local presence shines through, as the books are set in “Catfish Springs,” a fictional town just outside High Springs and Gainesville, FL.
Haint Blue is a 40-something albino woman who purchases a dilapidated fishing camp and decides to turn it into a meditation and yoga retreat. As a metaphysical studio owner myself, I definitely related to many of her misadventures (of course not the murder part!). She is strong and independent, but she is also insecure and vulnerable. She is funny and witty, but she is also capable of great compassion. Elliott does an excellent job of bringing Haint Blue to life. The reader can't help but root for her as she struggles to overcome each challenge that comes her way.
This series is a story about the power of meditation and mindfulness. It is a reminder that we all have the potential to find inner peace, no matter what our circumstances may be. The novel is also a celebration of the human spirit and the power of love. Elliott has written a beautiful and inspiring story that will stay with the reader long after the book is finished.
