Five Ways to Keep Your Habits

We make habits with the best intentions, but then what?  Here are some quick tips to help you keep your habits and create the life you want!

  1. Determine why your habits are important - Get clear on why you want to follow each habit. For example, you want to go to bed earlier so that you feel better rested during the day. Eyes on the prize!

  2. Find an accountability partner - You don’t have to go it alone! Find a friend who has the same goal as you. This could be a friend you meet for a walk or fitness class or a book club.

  3. Make technology work for you - Use your phone to set automated reminders (to drink water, or take a few mindful breaths) or alarms (get up 5 minutes early, or start your bedtime routine). And if you’re looking to reduce your screen time, many devices now let you set time limits for certain apps.

  4. Be kind to yourself - Remember that you're working WITH yourself and using these habits to create more happiness, health, mindfulness, time, etc. Also, keep in mind that it takes time to fully integrate your new habits. You might have an off day, and that’s okay. Let yourself restart as many times as you’d like, as long as you keep moving forward!

  5. Keep track of your progress - Write your habits down and mark off each day when you’ve accomplished your goals. It’s helpful to see which habits are working for you and identify areas where you can improve. I’ve created a new Habit Tracker with this in mind!
